VicHealth and Yachting Victoria ~ Working together
Partnerships for Health Scheme
Yachting Victoria is supported by VicHealth through the Partnerships for Health Scheme.
The scheme aims to:
- encourage more people to participate in our sport, for all reasons - physical, mental health and wellbeing benefits
- to do so in safe and healthy and welcoming environments
- to provide accessible programs and experiences for the diversity of groups in the community
- provide tools to evaluate about how to increase participation in our sport.
How does Yachting Victoria fit in?
If you would like any information or materials distributed to your club, please contact Ross Kilborn
Yachting Victoria has a series of different program as part of the PFH scheme. Each program is responsible for different aims of the scheme.
State Sporting Association Healthy Environments
With guidance from VicHealth, Yachting Victoria has been able provide information to clubs to encourage healthy and safe environments.
Funding opportunities have been available from VicHealth through this scheme and many clubs have already benefited. Information is distributed and available on policy writing and documentation that clubs may require for their clubs.
VicHealth each year also support the Victorian Yachting Awards with a cash prize awarded to the VicHealth Yacht Club of the Year.
Sailing on the Move
This program is aimed at increasing participation through the mobile sailing units.
Participation through both the mobile sailing units and at times the windsurfing school, programs have been organised and set up within regions of Victoria. The sailing units are able to service regional areas that do not have the infrastructure or number of boats to successfully introduce larger groups to their clubs at one time. Further participation is encourage through contact to a local sailing / boating club. Links between schools and local yacht clubs are also encouraged. Program included through this funding are community sailing days, come'n'try days, Sailability workshops, WOW - Women on Windsurfers.
Schools Teams Racing
Links have been formed between schools and yacht clubs throughout Victoria to provide a viable educational and competitive program introducing and teaching sailing skills. Futher promotion of the program will increase participation of schools within zones for social and competitive school sailing. The school program enables experienced students to introduce lesser experienced sailors to the racing environment.
Club Development - New Member Initiative
This program has allowed us to provide a program to encourage clubs to search for people that are interested in joining or becoming involved in sailing. The program is OnBoard and is a continuation of the initial OnBoard program. The program is aimed at assisting clubs to welcome newcomers to their clubs in a safe and welcoming environment. The club manual has been designed, distributed and is updated regularly. The club manual is also available on the Yachting Victoria website. If you are unaware of the club manual , you can access it on the internet by clicking here
VicHealth are a complete information source. They have regular updates on their website, and you as a club can register to receive these, just by visiting their site.
