FAMILY and friends are invited to come and enjoy a day at Docklands when the second qualifying round of the Victoria Harbour Schools Sailing Series takes place on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29. Proudly sponsored by Lend Lease's Victoria Harbour project and the City of Melbourne, the second qualifying round will see up to 12 more schools take to the waters off Docklands Yacht Club in what promises to be an exciting two days of sailing. The schools will by vying for a spot in the state finals alongside four successful schools from the first qualifying round. Schools already through to finals, also to be held at Docklands in May, are Mentone Grammar, St Bede's College, Haileybury College and Christian College Geelong. The very best school will then get to compete in the Australian Schools team championships at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in July. Outdoor education co-ordinator and sailing coach at Firbank Grammar, Michael Lyons, said his team looked forward to competing in the Victoria Harbour Schools Sailing Series. ``It's great,'' Mr Lyons said. ``The girls have been training hard and we hope to do well''. Yachting Victoria CEO Ross Kilborn said race headquarters, the Lady Cutler, would provide a great viewing platform for family and friends to cheer on the schools. ``Victoria Harbour is the Etihad Stadium of schools sailing,'' Mr Kilborn said . ``This weekend (March 28 & 29) all parents, friends and family of the teams competing in second selection round of the Victoria Harbour Schools Sailing Series will be welcome aboard the Lady Cutler to watch the schools teams racing action.'' The Lady Cutler, Melbourne's premier cruise boat, will be open to family and friends and will provide spectators with great views of the sailing. The restored Sydney ferry will be moored about 400m west of the NAB building, near Docklands Yacht Club. Coffee will be available.
