Irwin Sails
Paul Pascoe, Thursday, 6 February 2003 The Notice of Race and Entry form for the Sabot State Titles. As one of the prizes, a new Irwin sail will go to one lucky sailor
This is the major event on the local Sabot calendar for the year, but is not only for the “hotshots” – anyone who has a boat that looks moderately like a Sabot should be there. After reading the reports from sailors at the Sabot Nationals, everyone should realise that the racing is only a small part of what goes on at an event, and the new friends are the big attraction once you get over that initial hurdle of feeling like you don’t know anyone.
And the big news is that the event is being sponsored by Irwin Sails and as part of the arrangement, a new Irwin mainsail will be one of the awards. The sail will be an encouragement award determined by the VSSA Committee and it could be awarded to either a Senior, Junior or Novice sailor from the event
The event is spread over 3 weekends for the Senior sailors in order to ease the load during the busy part of the season. For Novice sailors, the final weekend at Mornington is the place to be, with a separate course, and assistance from coaches in the ducks to help you get around the course. Each club will be bringing a few of their club boats, so if you would like to take the next step, contact your club about using one of their boats for the weekend at Mornington.
For the more experienced racers, this is the time to show your stuff, and with at least one current 420 skipper making a comeback for the event, there should be plenty of competition. See the attached Notice of Race for more details.
- Saturday Feb 8th, Frankston YC
- Sunday Feb 23rd, Black Rock YC
- Sat/Sun March 22/23rd, Mornington YC
