The 2004 Irwin Sails Sabot Victorian Championships concluded last weekend at Port Melbourne YC with all ten races being held over a variety of conditions. The host club supported the event superbly, and all aspects of management, both on and off shore, worked perfectly. The championships attracted 42 boats and around 55 kids across the five divisions, with a fantastic 13 boats competing in the Novice divisions. A summary of winners is as follows, although the full results are to be found by following the links below:

2004 Senior Champion – Michael Farthing, Slam Dunk – Current 420 State Champion shows his style, but won by only a point from Ben Gunther in a very close contest.
2004 Junior Champions – Nicholas and Matthew Taylor, C’est la vie – Nicholas won relatively easily for the second year in succession but with a new crew (tested at Bowen) – I gather the Seniors were quite relieved he decided to sail two-up at this regatta!
2004 Female Champion – Amy Kivell, Smart Aft, 4th overall and a fantastic effort – three wins in the ten races – look out guys for next year!
2004 Junior One-up Winner – James Sly, Little Rocket , 11th overall and beat a number of Seniors in the process – a typical dogged performance, with some really great results towards the end of the series.
2004 Novice Champion – Jason O’Keefe, To the Max – racing his first Sabot regatta, Jason swept the field.
