VICTORIA HARBOUR SCHOOL SAILING SERIES

2ND QUALIFYING ROUND RESULTS

LAST year's champions St Leonard's College will face  some tough competition in the finals after some exceptional sailing in the second qualifying round of the Victoria Harbour Schools Sailing Series last weekend.

St Leonard's were the victors after two days of sailing, but were pushed harder than ever before by strong teams from Geelong Grammar, St Michael's Grammar and Haileybury College (A).

The second round of the series, proudly sponsored by Lend Lease's Victoria Harbour project and the City of Melbourne, was held on March 28 and 29 at Docklands.

Twelve schools sailed for the chance to compete in the state finals in May. The winners of that event will go on to compete in the Australian schools sailing team championships at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in July.

Warm weather brought family and friends to Docklands on both days, though the gentle conditions certainly tested the crews' sailing abilities.

Event organizer Mark Taylor said St Leonard's College showed some exceptional sailing, with the team being pushed harder thanks to some great sailing from its competitors.

``Geelong Grammar, St Michael's Grammar and Haileybury (A) were the big improvers from last year,'' Mr Taylor said.

``St Leonard's was certainly pushed harder than it has been historically.''
